The Sophie Germain Scholarship Program

The Sophie Germain program offers scholarships for excellence at the Master's level, supporting talented students from around the world to pursue a Master's degree in Mathematics and Applications at the University of Paris-Saclay or the Institut Polytechnique de Paris.

Application Timeline

  • First Call: October to January

    • Open to students outside the Paris-Saclay perimeter, particularly international applicants (visa required).

  • Second Call: February to early June

    • Open to students ("interns") already within the Paris-Saclay perimeter.

Eligibility Criteria

  1. Program Requirements:

    • Enroll in an eligible Master's degree in "Mathematics and Applications" (M1 or M2) at the University of Paris-Saclay or the Institut Polytechnique de Paris.

    • Refer to the list of eligible Master's programs.

  2. Documentation Required:

    • Completed online application form.

    • Transcripts from previous institutions (Bachelor’s and Master’s year 1).

    • Academic CV.

    • Two referee details (letters are requested automatically).

    • Study plan (maximum 2 pages) detailing academic interests, career goals, and explanations of unusual elements in CV or transcripts.

  3. Additional Notes:

    • First-time international students must obtain a CAMPUS France file number for visa purposes.

    • Applications are evaluated based on academic excellence, supported by transcripts and recommendation letters.

Scholarship Value

  • Annual Scholarship: €11,000 net per year.

  • Registration Fees: Flat-rate allowance provided.

  • International Students:

    • Lump sum up to €2,000 for visa fees and round-trip travel (first year).

    • Accommodation in individual studios near campus (Orsay and Evry).

    • A housing kit worth approximately €100.

Selection Process

  • Evaluated by a jury appointed by the FMJH Steering Committee in collaboration with program heads.

  • Selection criteria prioritize academic excellence and a well-crafted study plan.

  • Results announced approximately five weeks after the application deadline.

Terms and Conditions

  • Cannot be combined with other excellence scholarships.

  • Scholarship recipients participate in the annual Master's Days organized by the FMJH.

  • Students must also submit a parallel application to their desired Master's program via the respective institution's website for administrative registration.

Sophie Germain scholarship

Fondation Mathématique Jacques Hadamard

The Sophie Germain program offers scholarships for excellence at Master's level, enabling around fifty students from all over the world to enter the "Mathematics and Applications" Master's program, either in the first or second year.

A jury selects the winners according to criteria defined by the FMJH Scientific Council, with excellence at the top of the list. As this program is designed to encourage talented young people to pursue research in mathematics, candidates are asked to take particular care in drafting their study projects in their applications.
