Job Purpose:
The University Chaplain is responsible for building the spirituality of staff and students by organizing and leading chapel services, spiritual groups, and discipleship programs. This role supports the university's mission by fostering spiritual growth through various programs and by providing pastoral care and guidance to the university community.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
Oversee the planning, coordination, and execution of chapel programs and services, including acquiring instruments and equipment, developing program content and agenda, overseeing chapel announcements, and liaising with preachers and other volunteers.
Oversee the activities of religious clubs and Bible study groups, including events planned by the Christian Unions, and ensure alignment with the Wesleyan Arminian Holiness perspective.
Oversee the selection and identification of work-study students and evaluate their monthly performance and activities.
Provide pastoral care services to the university community, including pastoral counseling, guidance, prayers, encouragement, discipleship, and mentoring. Offer prayer support to individuals in crisis or needing support.
Liaise with other Nazarene religious leaders and universities in Kenya to promote spiritual unity and ministry outreach to local communities. Participate in community mission and events outside the campus.
Lead the development and training of leaders on spiritual life and discipleship, provide support on campus ethos, and coordinate activities for the spiritual formation and development of students, staff, and faculty.
Coordinate the preparation of the departmental budget and ensure its effective implementation.
Develop and monitor the department's annual plan and strategies to support the university's overall goals.
Mentor, coach, and supervise subordinate staff.
Provide technical advice and reports to management when required.
Academic and Professional Requirements:
Master's degree in Theology, Religion, or a related field.
Minimum of eight (8) years of relevant experience.
Ordained minister in the Church of Nazarene.
Membership in a relevant professional body.

Visionary Leadership: Ability to sell the vision of the university and operationalize strategy into action.

Strategic Management: Strong strategic management skills.
Communication Skills: Effective verbal and written communication.
Interpersonal Skills: Strong ability to build relationships and foster cooperation.
Organizing and Planning: Strong organizing and planning skills for coordinating spiritual life activities.
