About Senga:

Senga is a Nairobi-based startup focused on streamlining supply chains and logistics for formal retail, starting with Africa. We are looking for highly skilled software engineers to join our team and help build beautiful, transformational technology. Our work is complex, and we require engineers with a deep understanding of computing theory, data structures, and algorithms. At Senga, computer science becomes practice, and we strive to make every project intellectually stimulating and impactful.

Note: This is an in-office position. We are building a strong collaborative culture, and this role is not suited for remote applicants at this time.

About the Role:

As a Software Engineer, you will play a key role in building the Senga platform. You will design, develop, and maintain the services and infrastructure that support our web and mobile applications, as well as our logistics core. You will be expected to work across multiple technologies, adapt to various coding languages, and contribute to our Agile Software Methodology.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Develop software using our technology stack, including Ruby on Rails, Flutter, and ReactJS.

  • Extend the web platform used by Shippers, Transporters, and Senga administrative staff.

  • Contribute to the Agile Software Methodology.

  • Develop and maintain high throughput APIs to serve various components of the application.

  • Collaborate cross-functionally with team members and stakeholders to design and implement web, mobile applications, and logistics solutions.

Desired Skills and Experience:

  • Required: Undergraduate degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Engineering, or a similar field (no exceptions).

  • Experience: Minimum of 3 years of post-university experience in software development. Entry-level candidates who excelled in university may be considered.

  • Track Record: Proven high performance and a consistent top performer in your team.

  • Experience with developing user interface components and implementing standard workflows.

  • Comfort with system architecture, component design, and using design patterns. Experience with cloud platforms is a plus.

  • Familiarity with Ruby on Rails, RSpec testing framework, OpenAPI specifications, ReactJS, and Git.

  • Experience in developing data-driven applications and using development frameworks, relational databases, and virtualization platforms.

  • Success in delivering products at scale, individually or as part of a team.

  • Strong documentation skills for proposed solutions (e.g., flowcharts, diagrams).

  • Ability to operate in an agile, fluid, and ambiguous environment.

  • Excellent collaboration skills with the ability to contribute to a team-oriented startup culture.
