Job Purpose:
We are seeking a Senior Underwriter for Corporate, Emerging Markets & IPMI to join Jubilee Health Insurance Limited. The successful candidate will report to the Underwriting & Reinsurance Manager and be based at our Head Office in Nairobi. The role involves managing, administering, and controlling the company’s underwriting operations to ensure profitable growth, quality service, and timely support for clients and intermediaries.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Strategy:

• Contribute to the development and implementation of underwriting strategies, aligning them with the company’s goals.

• Identify and assess emerging risks in the insurance sector and propose strategies to mitigate them.

• Design and implement automated underwriting processes to drive efficiency, growth, and customer excellence.

2. Operational:

• Develop and implement underwriting guidelines, manuals, and authority matrices.

• Review and approve non-standard quotations and renewal terms for underwriting compliance.

• Ensure quality assurance of new, renewal, and additional business to maintain compliance and customer excellence.

• Timely issuance of policy and underwriting documents.

• Support the distribution team in acquiring new business and engaging with clients during renewals.

• Prepare underwriting reports for management insights and decision-making.

• Re-underwrite corporate books for profitable growth.

• Ensure accurate membership setup, benefit setup, and prompt invoicing.

• Manage scheme maintenance, ensuring timely communication, document issuance, and reporting to clients and intermediaries.

• Maintain accurate system captures of medical benefits and member coverage.

3. Corporate Governance:

• Ensure compliance with underwriting guidelines, company policies, and regulatory requirements.

• Establish and maintain risk control measures to manage risks effectively.

4. Leadership & Culture:

• Mentor and provide technical expertise to junior underwriters.

• Build and maintain positive relationships with brokers, clients, and other stakeholders to provide exceptional service.

Key Skills and Competencies:

• Strong analytical skills and ability to assess complex underwriting data.

• Attention to detail to ensure accuracy in documents and minimize errors.

• Excellent communication skills to clearly convey underwriting decisions.

• Strong decision-making abilities in assessing risks and determining underwriting actions.

• Proficiency in financial analysis and risk evaluation.

Academic & Professional Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Actuarial Science, Finance, or a related field (Master's degree is a plus).

• Professional Insurance Qualification.

Relevant Experience:

• A minimum of four (4) years of experience in health underwriting.
