Scoping Officer – Nairobi (1-Year Contract) at Summit Recruitment

Salary: KES 180,000 - 270,000 per month (depending on experience and qualifications)

OVERVIEW

Our client, a private water operator providing 24/7 access to clean water in Sub-Saharan Africa, is seeking a Scoping Officer to join their team. This role involves identifying and assessing villages for new programs, supporting land and infrastructure negotiations, and building relationships within the community. The ideal candidate should have at least 5 years of experience in a similar role.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Collaboration: Regularly liaise with global functional leads and other East Africa teams to update on plans, progress, and performance.

  • Team Leadership: Work with direct reports, supporting their professional development and ensuring clarity on goals.

  • Site Assessments: Lead technical, social, and political assessments of potential sites to determine project suitability.

  • Community Engagement: Build relationships with county water socials, village leaders, and lead community initiatives such as public participations to encourage sign-ups and water usage.

  • Negotiation: Assist in infrastructure and land acquisition negotiations to enable system development.

  • Contractor Management: Support in selecting, managing, and overseeing contractors, ensuring quality control.

  • Operations Support: Assist with water quality testing, hygiene surveys, water treatment, and the training of community health staff.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field.

  • Experience: At least 5 years in project management, research, or data analysis.

  • Skills:

    • Strong analytical and communication skills.

    • Ability to identify challenges during project scoping and offer innovative solutions.

    • Familiarity with project management tools and software is an added advantage.

  • Flexibility: Willingness to travel across the country.
