This Opportunity
We are hiring a Regional Manager, East Africa for a global sustainable land-use programme funded by the Foreign, Commonwealth, and Development Office (FCDO). The programme aims to launch in early 2025.
The Regional Manager will oversee the implementation of the East Africa Region portfolio, strategy, team, workplan, and budget, ensuring programme objectives and deliverables are achieved. They will also collaborate with the Regional Director, engage with stakeholders, and represent the programme across the region.
Primary Roles and Responsibilities
Programme Management:
Implement regional strategy, workplan, and budget to meet targets.
Lead scoping and development of forest partnership businesses aligning with programme strategy.
Oversee grants, technical assistance, and diagnostics for partners.
Stakeholder Engagement:
Build relationships with civil society, public and private sectors, and NGOs across the region.
Represent the programme in Ethiopia, Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, and Madagascar.
Team Leadership:
Manage a multidisciplinary regional team and ensure collaboration.
Focus on staff motivation, recruitment, onboarding, appraisal, and development.
Technical Support:
Provide guidance and quality assurance for project activities and outputs.
Lead initiatives focused on smallholder empowerment and GESI (Gender Equality and Social Inclusion).
Reporting and Representation:
Provide updates to FCDO and internal committees.
Participate in regional events to raise programme visibility.
Essential Criteria
Entrepreneurial and results-driven, with extensive experience in forestry, agriculture, or commodity trade.
Proven leadership in managing large teams and delivering high-quality results.
Demonstrated success in stakeholder engagement, including partnerships with private sectors.
Expertise in sustainability, agricultural/forest commodities, and supply chains.
Strong interpersonal and cross-cultural sensitivity skills.
Fluent in English, with excellent written and verbal communication.
Desirable Criteria
Experience working on livelihood resilience and smallholder empowerment initiatives.
Understanding barriers to equity for marginalized groups in forestry/agriculture.
Knowledge of local languages is an advantage.
Additional Information
Location: Nairobi, Kenya.
Reporting: Reports to the Regional Director, East Africa.
