Job Overview/Summary

The Regional Advocacy and Communications Coordinator will lead the development and implementation of the Central Africa regional advocacy and communication strategy. This role includes providing strategic guidance and support for advocacy at both country and regional levels, while contributing to global communications objectives. The Senior Coordinator will develop policy positions, oversee internal and external communications, and strengthen IRC’s influence in regional and international forums. This position will enhance humanitarian action, improve aid effectiveness, and raise attention to issues affecting communities in Central Africa.

Responsibilities

  • Advocacy Strategy: Lead the development and implementation of the advocacy strategy for Central Africa, aligning regional goals with global efforts. Develop plans to engage with relevant audiences and advocacy targets.

  • Communications Strategy: Collaborate with IRC teams to develop and implement a communication strategy, increasing awareness of crises in the region and showcasing IRC's impact and advocacy efforts.

  • Communications Management: Oversee the production of external-facing reports and press releases, ensuring key audiences are informed about IRC activities and displaced people's needs.

  • Internal Collaboration: Share information and analysis across IRC teams to ensure alignment of advocacy and policy messaging.

  • Policy Engagement: Develop regional and country-specific policy agendas, responding to challenges in the humanitarian/development sectors. Produce position papers and analysis to guide advocacy work.

  • Spokesperson Support: Assist senior IRC leaders by providing briefings to stakeholders and engaging with media to highlight IRC’s response and advocacy priorities.

  • Advocacy Relationships: Engage with national and regional stakeholders, including other INGOs, UN agencies, and think tanks, to advance IRC’s advocacy efforts.

Key Working Relationships

  • Reports to: CA Deputy Regional Director

  • Indirect Reporting to: VP of Global Advocacy and Influence

  • Internal Relationships: Country Directors, Global Advocacy and Communications teams, Subject Matter Experts

  • External Relationships: Regional and national advocacy fora, INGOs, UN agencies

Requirements

  • Education: Degree in Law, Government, Political Science, International Relations, or related fields

  • Experience:

    • 5-8 years in humanitarian, development, or foreign policy issues

    • At least 2 years of experience in Central Africa

    • Experience in advocacy and communications, with strategic and creative thinking

  • Skills:

    • Excellent research, writing, and communication skills

    • Strong networking and relationship-building abilities

    • Knowledge of humanitarian systems and solutions to protracted displacement

    • Ability to manage multiple projects and work under pressure

    • Culturally sensitive with a team-oriented approach

  • Languages: Fluency in French and English (oral and written)
