Job Overview:
The Regional Advocacy & Communication Senior-Coordinator will lead the development and implementation of the Central Africa regional advocacy and communication strategy. This role includes providing strategic guidance and support for advocacy efforts at both the regional and country levels, as well as contributing to global communications goals. The Senior Coordinator will be responsible for developing policy positions and advocacy plans, overseeing internal and external communications for the region, and strengthening the IRC's position in regional and international fora.
Key Responsibilities:
Advocacy Strategy: Lead the development and implementation of advocacy strategies for regional and country-level policy goals. Support the global advocacy messaging and influence efforts.
Communications Strategy: Collaborate with IRC teams to develop and implement a communication strategy that raises awareness of the crises in Central Africa and IRC’s impact, supporting fundraising and influencing policymakers.
Communications: Oversee production of external-facing products, including reports and press releases, to inform key audiences about IRC activities and the needs of displaced people.
Internal Collaboration: Ensure alignment of policy/advocacy messaging across country programs, the regional office, and global headquarters.
Policy Engagement: Develop regional and country-specific policy agendas, position papers, and advocacy materials to inform global and regional advocacy work.
Spokesperson Assistance: Support IRC’s spokespersons by providing briefings and engaging with international and regional media for high-quality coverage.
Advocacy: Engage with regional and national stakeholders to advance advocacy priorities and maintain relationships with external actors, including NGOs, UN agencies, and think tanks.
Key Working Relationships:
Reports to: CA Deputy Regional Director
Indirectly reports to: VP of Global Advocacy and Influence
Key internal relationships: Regional and country directors, Global Advocacy and Influence colleagues, Global communications teams, Technical Advisors
Key external relationships: Regional and national advocacy fora, international NGOs, UN agencies
Requirements:
Education: Degree in Law, Government, Political Science, International Relations, Strategic Studies, or related field.
Experience: 5-8 years in humanitarian, development, or foreign policy work, including 2 years of overseas experience, preferably in the Central Africa region.
Skills:
Excellent research, writing, and communication skills.
Experience in advocacy and communications, with a focus on creative, strategic thinking.
Knowledge of humanitarian systems, displacement, and international relief and development.
Strong networking, relationship-building, and negotiation skills.
Ability to work under pressure and handle multiple projects simultaneously.
