Production Supervisor (Potatoes) – Naivasha, Kenya at Summit Recruitment

OVERVIEW

Our client, an agricultural enterprise in Naivasha, is seeking a Production Supervisor to oversee the cultivation of potatoes. This position requires overseeing farm workers, machine operators, and ensuring the highest quality of produce is maintained in accordance with agricultural best practices.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Crop Management: Direct the planting, cultivation, irrigation, and pest control processes to ensure optimal crop health and yield.

  • Team Leadership: Lead and train farm workers, tractor operators, and machine operators in efficient farming and safety practices.

  • Quality Control: Ensure that the produce meets required quality standards for market sale and processing.

  • Machinery Maintenance: Oversee the maintenance and proper use of machinery and tools, ensuring regular servicing.

  • Resource Management: Manage seeds, fertilizers, and pesticides to optimize cost-efficiency.

  • Documentation: Maintain records of farm activities, crop health, and yield outcomes; report findings to management.

  • Budget Control: Operate within budgetary guidelines for labor, machinery, and inputs to minimize costs.

  • Health & Safety Compliance: Implement and ensure compliance with health and safety protocols and agricultural regulations.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience: At least 4 years of experience as a Production Supervisor, ideally with experience in cultivating potatoes or similar crops.

  • Skills:

    • Proven ability to supervise farm laborers and operators with a focus on productivity.

    • Knowledge of crop rotation, irrigation, and pest control practices.

    • Ability to ensure that produce meets quality standards for sale and storage.

    • Familiarity with maintaining and efficiently using farm machinery.

    • Ability to document farm activities, crop health, and resource allocation.

    • Experience managing production budgets and controlling costs.

    • Strong commitment to workplace safety and regulatory compliance.
