Job Summary:
The Pre-School Teacher will provide students with a safe and inclusive learning environment by designing and implementing appropriate learning instructions and activities aligned with the curriculum. The teacher will also be responsible for managing student discipline and ensuring the overall well-being of the students.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Ensure the safe transportation of pupils to and from school by conducting pick-up and drop-off duties, ensuring safety procedures are followed while in transit.
Develop daily lesson plans that incorporate the CBC framework and deliver lessons on numeracy, literacy, and understanding of the world.
Create a nurturing, stimulating, and safe learning environment for early years pupils and assess their progress and adaptability.
Coordinate and facilitate school trips and excursions, selecting appropriate destinations, ensuring adequate transportation, and ensuring the safety and well-being of pupils.
Develop a termly scheme of work outlining topics, expected outcomes, and resources to be used.
Prepare daily occurrence reports on classroom happenings and maintain accurate records of student work.
Organize and lead school assemblies twice a week, coordinating pupil presentations and selecting students to lead the assembly.
Administer enrollment interview assessments for potential pupils, analyze the results, and provide feedback to parents while recording grades in the Mzizi system.
Develop term-based themes and related projects focusing on life skills, culture, and other related areas.
Conduct end-of-unit assessments to evaluate student understanding and adjust teaching methods based on results.
Maintain a safe and healthy learning environment, ensuring that the classroom is clean and well-organized.
Supervise students during classroom and outdoor activities, promoting positive behavior and preventing accidents.
Participate in ongoing professional development through seminars and workshops to enhance teaching skills and stay updated with best practices in early childhood education.
Create displays and bulletin boards that engage students' curiosity and support learning.
Communicate regularly with parents and guardians about their child's progress through conferences, progress reports, and other forms of communication.
Assist in setting up beds for nap time after lunch and closely supervise pupils during nap time to ensure safety and well-being.
Provide differentiated instruction to meet the diverse needs of early years students using various instructional strategies.
Foster a positive classroom culture that promotes respect, inclusion, and empathy by establishing clear behavioral expectations and encouraging collaboration.
Assist with toileting and potty training as needed, including changing diapers.
Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Qualifications:
Diploma in Early Childhood Education or a related field.
Must be registered with the Teacher Service Commission (TSC).
Minimum of 2 years relevant experience in education.
Desired Competencies and Attributes:
Experience with play-based learning and student-centered instruction.
Knowledge of Early Childhood Education, including developmentally appropriate practices, educational theories, and strategies specific to early years.
Ability to design and deliver age-appropriate lessons, activities, and assessments that align with the curriculum and learning objectives.
Ability to use formative and summative assessments to evaluate student learning and adjust instruction.
Proficiency in creating and maintaining a safe, organized, and engaging learning environment.
Capability to integrate technology into instruction and use educational software to support learning.
Ability to communicate effectively with parents, including those who speak different languages.
Knowledge of phonics and early reading instruction to support literacy development.
Ability to relate to young children, demonstrating patience and empathy while understanding their unique needs and abilities.
Collaborative mindset to work with colleagues, parents, and other stakeholders to support student well-being and learning.
