Placement Programme for Intern Medical Doctors - Surgery at Mater

Location: Mater Misericordiae Hospital, Kenya
Position: Medical Officer Intern (4 positions available)
Start Date: 2025 Intake

About Mater Misericordiae Hospital
Mater Misericordiae Hospital is accredited by the Medical Practitioners & Dentists Board to offer placements for newly qualified doctors during their Internship year. The hospital provides a supportive and dynamic environment for medical interns to gain practical experience and build their medical careers under expert supervision.

Position Overview
The hospital is currently seeking four (4) Medical Officer Interns for the 2025 intake. Interns will rotate through the Surgery department, gaining experience in both elective and emergency surgical procedures, pre-operative and post-operative care, and overall surgical patient management.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in the preparation and execution of surgeries, under supervision.

  • Provide pre-operative, intra-operative, and post-operative care to surgical patients.

  • Assist in performing clinical assessments, including history-taking, physical examinations, and diagnostic procedures.

  • Participate in emergency surgeries and trauma care as part of the surgical team.

  • Contribute to patient management, including developing and following treatment plans, ensuring optimal care.

  • Ensure accurate documentation and maintenance of patient records.

  • Participate in departmental meetings, case discussions, and continuous medical education (CME) to enhance knowledge and skills.

Requirements

  • A Medical Degree from a recognized institution.

  • Registration with the Medical Practitioners & Dentists Board of Kenya.

  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work effectively in a team.

  • A strong interest in surgery and hands-on patient care.

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment.
