Placement Programme for Intern Medical Doctors - Paediatrics at Mater

About Mater Misericordiae Hospital
Mater Misericordiae Hospital is accredited by the Medical Practitioners & Dentists Board to offer placements for newly qualified doctors during their Internship year. The hospital offers a dynamic and supportive learning environment for medical interns to develop hands-on clinical skills in a variety of medical specialties.

Position Overview
The hospital is seeking four (4) Medical Officer Interns for the 2025 intake, who will rotate through the Paediatrics department. The internship will provide exposure to a wide range of paediatric conditions, including neonatal, general paediatrics, and paediatric emergencies.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in the assessment and management of paediatric patients in both outpatient and inpatient settings.

  • Provide care for neonates, infants, children, and adolescents under supervision.

  • Participate in clinical rounds, case discussions, and patient management planning.

  • Assist in performing physical examinations, ordering diagnostic tests, and interpreting results.

  • Participate in emergency paediatric care, including resuscitation and trauma management.

  • Contribute to immunization programs, health education, and preventive care for children.

  • Document patient progress and update medical records accurately.

  • Participate in departmental meetings, training sessions, and case reviews to continuously develop knowledge and skills.

Requirements

  • A Medical Degree from a recognized institution.

  • Registration with the Medical Practitioners & Dentists Board of Kenya.

  • Strong interest in paediatrics and working with children.

  • Ability to work effectively in a team and communicate with both children and their families.

  • Demonstrated ability to handle high-pressure situations in a clinical environment.
