Microsoft Research (MSR) Africa is seeking a motivated PhD intern to work on AI, machine learning, and GIS projects focusing on sustainability and climate change. The role requires knowledge of foundation and diffusion models to develop impactful solutions.
Responsibilities:
Conduct research in AI, ML, and GIS to address environmental challenges.
Use foundation and diffusion models to analyze complex environmental data.
Collaborate on integrating AI/ML into existing systems.
Develop data pipelines for processing large datasets.
Publish findings in conferences and journals.
Stay updated on advancements in AI, ML, GIS, and sustainability.
Qualifications:
Required:
Enrolled in a PhD program in Machine Learning, Computer Science, Geospatial Analytics, or related STEM fields.
Experience with foundation and diffusion models.
Proficient in Python, R, or Java and frameworks like PyTorch, TensorFlow, or JAX.
Strong problem-solving and collaboration skills.
Effective communication skills for technical and non-technical audiences.
Passion for equitable AI solutions in Africa and beyond.
Preferred:
Experience deploying AI/ML models in production environments.
Familiarity with Azure, AWS, or Google Cloud.
Knowledge of sustainability policies and climate regulations.
Publication record in relevant conferences (e.g., NeurIPS, ICML, ICLR).
