Job Purpose:
The Network Engineer will be responsible for the administration, development, and maintenance of the corporate data network. You will manage network security, disaster recovery planning, and ensure the network’s performance aligns with the bank’s business objectives. Reporting to the Head of Network & Infrastructure Support, you will play a key role in maintaining the bank's infrastructure while ensuring business continuity.
Key Responsibilities:
Network Performance Management: Ensure that the corporate network functions optimally, aligning with the bank’s business objectives and service level agreements (SLAs).
Proactive Monitoring & Support: Monitor network performance, including logs, SNMP, and event maintenance to provide proactive support and address issues.
Policy Development: Develop and maintain data transmission, access control, storage, business continuity, backup, and security policies in line with best practices and compliance standards.
Upgrades & Updates: Plan and implement product upgrades, firewall signature updates, and patch releases across all ICT assets to ensure security and functionality.
Research & Development: Stay abreast of local and international technology trends, evaluating their relevance to the bank’s business systems and network security.
Network Architecture Documentation: Define and document hardware platforms, operating systems, technologies, and network system components to ensure clarity in network design.
Hardware & Software Support: Install, support, and maintain ICT infrastructure, resolving issues related to system failures or performance.
Vendor Relationship Management: Establish and maintain relationships with vendors, consultants, and external service providers, ensuring timely and cost-effective service delivery.
Security Management: Oversee remote authentication passwords and manage access to ensure network security and minimal external threats.
Leadership & Team Coordination: Manage internal staff and external vendors, ensuring efficient service delivery with minimal interruptions to business operations.
Desired Qualifications, Skills & Experience:
Education: A Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or an IT-related field from a recognized university. Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP) certification is a must.
Experience: Minimum of 3 years of experience in LAN/WAN infrastructure planning, design, support, and development.
Technical Skills:
Strong knowledge of TCP/IP, IP Telephony, and Firewall appliances.
Experience working with multi-user, multi-platform operating systems such as UNIX, Windows 2003/2008.
Familiarity with multivendor infrastructure, including Cisco, IBM, and Sun/Oracle technologies.
Knowledge of Service Provider infrastructure and related protocols.
Competency in project management, especially in cross-functional environments.
In-depth understanding of modern information security threats and strategies to mitigate them.
Leadership Skills: Proven ability to lead mission-critical projects and work within multidisciplinary teams.
Problem-Solving & Troubleshooting: Demonstrated ability to plan, design, develop, maintain, and troubleshoot large, complex WANs, LANs, and client/server-based systems.

Co-operative Bank
The Co-operative Bank of Kenya Limited is incorporated in Kenya under the Company Act and is also licensed to do the business of banking under the Banking Act. The Bank was initially registered under the Co-operative Societies Act at the point of founding in 1965.
