Manager - General Ledger Controls & Revenue Assurance

Job Purpose:
This role is responsible for supporting balance sheet substantiation through general ledger monitoring, ledger mapping for financial reporting, IT controls around the general ledger, independent ledger balance verifications, and reviewing processes to manage and monitor operational risk in finance.
Key Responsibilities:
Financial Controls (80%)
Perform balance sheet validation procedures to close exceptions.
Review and resolve general ledger mismatches within the closure process.
Prepare and review journal entries and schedules for financial reporting.
Advise on correct accounting processes for newly developed products.
Manage general ledger ownership, reconciliation, and balance confirmation.
Supervise journal entries to the general ledgers.
Prevent exposure to operational risks associated with suspense accounts.
Facilitate audit socialization in finance and ensure early corrective measures.
Serve as the central point of contact for operational risks in finance.
Address issues raised by auditors and regulators promptly.
Provide financial schedules to auditors for smooth audit conclusion.
Coordinate Nostro Accounts reconciliations and year-end closure with IT.
Revenue Assurance (10%)
Ensure proper accounting and recovery of all revenues.
Represent finance in product and service costing and pricing.
Lead revenue assurance efforts to eliminate revenue leakage.
Support branches and departments with income reversals.
Review treasury income/amortization related to government securities and corporate bonds.
Team Leadership (10%)
Provide training and development to staff on identified knowledge gaps.
Coach and mentor staff for career growth.
Manage staff performance and resource needs.
Oversee team leave management.
Knowledge, Skills & Experience Required:
Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Mathematics, or a related field.
Professional qualification in CPA (K) or ACCA.
Member of ICPAK in good standing.
10+ years of experience in banking, with at least 4 years in a managerial position.
Knowledge of banking business and operations, advanced Excel skills, and attention to detail.
Strong grasp of accounting standards, CBK guidelines, and financial policies.
Experience in risk management and compliance.
