Laboratory Technician at Zetech University

Job Objective

The Laboratory Technician will ensure the efficient operation and maintenance of laboratory facilities, provide technical support for teaching and research activities, and mentor students in developing practical skills and understanding of laboratory protocols.

Key Responsibilities

  • Laboratory Operations and Maintenance:

    • Prepare and maintain accurate documentation of laboratory procedures, experiments, and results.

    • Manage laboratory supplies and inventory, including ordering, receiving, and storing reagents, chemicals, and other materials.

    • Ensure compliance with safety regulations and laboratory protocols.

    • Regularly clean, calibrate, and maintain laboratory equipment to ensure it functions properly.

    • Operate and maintain laboratory equipment to conduct experiments and tests accurately.

  • Testing and Analysis:

    • Perform routine and specialized tests on samples, including chemical analyses, microbiological tests, and histological exams.

    • Prepare samples for testing by processing, preserving, and storing them according to standard procedures.

  • Teaching and Mentoring:

    • Assist lecturers in marking and grading students’ practical work reports.

    • Prepare laboratories and set up for students’ practical learning activities, instructing and supervising students as they carry out experiments.

    • Prepare manuals for laboratory use, practical lessons’ instructions and procedures, and review them periodically in line with curriculum reviews.

    • Prepare laboratory use rules and procedures for students, ensure adherence, and enforce rules.

  • Other Duties:

    • Perform any other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree in Laboratory Technology, Laboratory Science, or related qualifications from a recognized/accredited university.

  • At least 1 year of relevant experience in a similar role.

  • Proficiency in relevant computer applications.

  • Membership in a professional body.

  • Problem-solving and analytical thinking skills.

  • Familiarity with modern laboratory technologies and software.
