Kenyatta University Teaching, Referral & Research Hospital (KUTRRH) – Recruitment of Part-time Staff for Mobile Endoscopy Clinic

Position: Nursing Officer, Endoscopy (Mobile Clinic)
Job Ref. V/ST/1/2024 (2 positions)
Location: Kisii, Meru, Kiambu, Nakuru, and Nyeri Counties

Kenyatta University Teaching, Referral & Research Hospital (KUTRRH) is a State Corporation offering specialized healthcare, medical research, and education. The hospital has partnered with the University of Manchester and other collaborators on the National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) Global Health Research Project aimed at improving oesophageal cancer survival in Kenya.

As part of this project, KUTRRH seeks to engage qualified staff on a part-time basis for the role of Nursing Officer, Endoscopy in a mobile clinic setting. The project will cover five counties: Kisii, Meru, Kiambu, Nakuru, and Nyeri. Successful candidates will support endoscopy services and research to improve oesophageal cancer survival rates in Kenya.

Terms of Engagement: Part-time/Locum
Contract Period: 6 months

Key Responsibilities:

  • Operate and manage the mobile endoscopy clinic, providing high-quality, patient-centered care.

  • Perform endoscopic procedures, including upper gastrointestinal endoscopy, and provide post-procedure care.

  • Maintain and sterilize endoscopy equipment in line with established protocols.

  • Monitor patient conditions and provide necessary medical interventions during and after procedures.

  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure smooth operation across the five counties.

  • Educate patients and caregivers on procedures and post-care guidelines.

  • Record patient data for research and reporting purposes.

  • Contribute to research efforts to improve oesophageal cancer survival.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications & Requirements:

  1. Education: A Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Nursing from a recognized institution.

  2. Licensing: Valid nursing practicing license from the Nursing Council of Kenya.

  3. Experience: At least 2 years of nursing experience, including working with endoscopic equipment.

  4. Specialized Training: Certification in endoscopy is an advantage.

  5. Proven ability to work in dynamic environments, particularly mobile clinics or rural health settings.

  6. Flexibility to travel and work across multiple counties.

  7. Fulfillment of Chapter Six requirements of the Constitution of Kenya (2010).
