Job Summary:
The Junior Secondary Teacher will be responsible for providing students with a safe and inclusive learning environment. The role involves designing and implementing appropriate learning instructions and activities that align with the curriculum and managing overall student discipline.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Supervise student behavior in classrooms, on school grounds, and during educational trips.
Conduct daily inspections of students to ensure they do not bring illegal substances to school.
Plan and develop engaging course materials that adhere to educational best practices and the school’s curriculum.
Design and deliver lesson plans in one or more academic, technical, or vocational subjects, using various teaching techniques suited to different learning styles.
Prepare schemes of work for the term, aligning them with the syllabus, and submit for approval to the HOD, Quality Assurance, and Head of School.
Prepare syllabus coverage reports and submit them for review.
Prepare materials for lessons, assignments, and tests; evaluate, correct, and grade student performance.
Discuss academic and behavioral issues with students, escalating issues that require further intervention.
Monitor students’ progress throughout the year and assess their readiness for transition to the next level.
Communicate student progress and concerns with parents and other staff members.
Build and maintain positive relationships with learners, parents, and colleagues.
Enforce safety and security standards for students, staff, and visitors.
Maintain required student records, including attendance and incident reports.
Monitor halls, study periods, and lunchrooms alongside other faculty and staff.
Participate in faculty meetings, conferences, workshops, and in-service training opportunities.
Ensure students adhere to school rules and regulations.
Ensure students are well-groomed and presentable.
Act as the link between students, school management, and parents regarding communication, discipline, and academics.
Communicate school calendar and upcoming events to stakeholders in a timely manner.
Organize and coordinate class excursions, events, and trips.
Participate in coordinating and coaching students in extracurricular activities.
Consult with parents on issues of indiscipline or declining academic performance.
Undertake other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Education from a recognized institution.
Must be registered with the Teacher Service Commission (TSC).
Evidence of participation in CBC training programs or seminars organized by the Ministry of Education or TSC.
Understanding of competency-based teaching methodologies and frameworks.
Desired Competencies and Attributes:
In-depth understanding of the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC) structure, objectives, and outcomes.
Ability to implement learner-centered approaches and integrate core CBC competencies (e.g., creativity, communication, critical thinking).
Proficiency in using ICT tools and digital platforms to enhance learning and assessment.
Familiarity with educational technologies that support CBC teaching.
Commitment to ongoing learning and professional growth in CBC developments.
Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues, parents, and the school community.
Commitment to ethical practices, confidentiality, and responsibility in handling students and curriculum delivery.
A genuine interest in fostering growth and learning among junior secondary students.
Ability to take initiative in classroom teaching, co-curricular activities, and school projects.
Precision in preparing learner portfolios, lesson plans, and assessments.
