Job Purpose:
The Internal Auditor is responsible for conducting comprehensive internal audits to ensure compliance with regulatory standards, identify operational inefficiencies, and enhance internal controls. The role involves assessing financial operations, risk management, and internal control systems.
Key Responsibilities:
Audit Planning and Execution:
Develop risk-based audit plans in collaboration with audit management to ensure coverage of critical areas.
Execute internal audits, assess internal controls, and evaluate compliance with relevant policies and regulations.
Risk Assessment:
Identify and assess risks related to financial operations, systems, and processes.
Contribute to the development of risk-based audit plans and methodologies.
Compliance Review:
Ensure compliance with relevant laws, regulations, and industry standards.
Stay updated on regulatory changes and ensure audit activities comply with these requirements.
Internal Control Evaluation:
Assess the effectiveness of internal controls, including financial reporting and operational processes.
Identify weaknesses in controls and recommend improvements.
Audit Documentation and Reporting:
Maintain thorough documentation of audit procedures, findings, and recommendations.
Prepare clear and concise audit reports for management, highlighting key findings and suggested actions.
Stakeholder Communication:
Communicate audit results to relevant stakeholders, including senior management and process owners.
Work with business units to discuss audit findings and assist in developing corrective action plans.
Continuous Improvement:
Identify opportunities for process improvements based on audit observations.
Contribute to the development and implementation of best practices within the internal audit function.
Follow-up and Monitoring:
Monitor the implementation of audit recommendations and verify the effectiveness of corrective actions.
Provide periodic updates on the status of open audit issues to audit management.
Training and Mentoring:
Provide guidance and support to junior audit staff.
Stay informed about industry trends and developments in audit methodologies.
Qualifications and Skills:
Bachelor’s Degree in accounting, finance, or a related field.
Professional Certification: CPAK and membership with ICPAK.
At least three (3) years of experience in internal auditing, preferably within the financial industry.
Strong understanding of internal control frameworks, risk management principles, and audit methodologies.
Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
Proficiency in audit management software and Microsoft Office applications.
Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.
Detail-oriented with a commitment to professionalism and objectivity.
