OVERVIEW

Our client, a well-established plantation with operations in Kenya and Tanzania, is seeking a Horticultural Supervisor. The role involves managing all on-farm activities, including seeding, nursery, growing, harvesting, sorting, packaging, pest control, and record-keeping. The ideal candidate should have over 5 years of experience in a busy agricultural field setup.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Farm Operations: Oversee all aspects of horticulture and general farming, ensuring optimal returns through economic and environmental practices.

  • Seed Production: Manage seed production, ensuring adherence to quality standards and regulatory requirements.

  • Record-Keeping: Prepare and maintain accurate farm records and accounts.

  • Safety and Health: Monitor safety and health measures for staff, ensuring environmental biodiversity and undertaking environmental protection activities when needed.

  • Staff Management: Train, supervise, and assign duties to staff, including cultivation, irrigation, harvesting, packaging, grading, and equipment maintenance.

  • Post-Harvest Processing: Oversee storage and packaging of harvested crops in preparation for sale.

  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensure all farm activities comply with government regulations.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Horticulture, Plant Science, Agronomy, or related field.

  • Experience: At least 5 years of working experience in a busy agricultural field setup.

  • Skills:

    • Proven experience in seed management, plant breeding, or horticultural production.

    • Strong understanding of horticultural practices and seed industry regulations.

    • Ability to analyze data and market trends effectively.

  • Additional Requirements:

    • Able to work with diverse cultural backgrounds in a remote location.

    • Must have a valid driving license with a motorbike endorsement and be proficient in riding.
