About AFC:
AFC is a government-owned financial institution that provides financial services to the agricultural sector in Kenya. The Corporation is looking for a dynamic, skilled, and strategic Head of Corporate Communication to lead the communication efforts, strengthen the organization’s public perception, and enhance its reputation.
Job Purpose:
The Head of Corporate Communication will develop and execute the Corporation’s communication strategy, enhance its reputation, increase brand visibility, and foster stakeholder engagement. This role will manage both internal and external communications, ensuring consistency in messaging and alignment with AFC’s strategic objectives. The position also involves coordinating media relations, corporate social responsibility initiatives, and crisis communication.
Key Responsibilities:
Corporate Communication Strategy:
Develop and implement a comprehensive communication strategy that aligns with AFC's organizational goals.
Internal and External Communication Management:
Oversee all communication channels, ensuring consistent messaging and branding for both internal and external stakeholders.
Media Relations:
Manage media relations, including issuing press releases, conducting media briefings, and responding to media inquiries, to maintain a positive public image of AFC.
Corporate Events and Stakeholder Engagement:
Coordinate corporate events, public relations campaigns, and activities to engage stakeholders effectively.
Crisis Communication Management:
Monitor and manage the Corporation’s reputation, handling crisis communication to mitigate risks and maintain trust.
Stakeholder Relationship Management:
Develop and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including government entities, partners, and the public.
Communication Material Production:
Oversee the creation of communication materials such as newsletters, reports, brochures, and digital content to promote the Corporation's activities.
Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Initiatives:
Coordinate CSR initiatives and ensure they align with AFC’s values and objectives.
Media and Communication Audits:
Conduct regular audits of media and communication strategies to assess effectiveness and recommend improvements.
Team Management and Training:
Manage and lead the corporate communication team, providing training and performance evaluation to improve team capabilities.
Budget Management:
Develop and monitor the communication budget to ensure resources are utilized effectively.
Strategic Counsel:
Provide strategic counsel to senior leadership on communication matters, including branding and stakeholder management.
Industry Trend Analysis:
Stay updated on industry trends and best practices to enhance AFC's communication strategies and reputation.
Qualifications and Skills:
Education:
Master’s degree in Mass Communication, Public Relations, Marketing, Journalism, or a related field.
Bachelor’s degree in Communication, Public Relations, Journalism, Marketing, or Mass Communication.
Certification:
Professional certification in Public Relations, Communications, or related fields (e.g., CIPR, PRSA, or similar) is an added advantage.
Diploma in Copyright Law is also an added advantage.
Experience:
At least 8 years of experience in corporate communication, public relations, or media management, with at least 3 years in a senior leadership role.
Proven track record of developing and implementing successful communication and branding strategies.
Strong background in stakeholder engagement, media relations, and crisis communication management.
Experience working with a diverse range of stakeholders, including government, private sector, and international partners.

Passion for Development: Interest and passion for development finance, agriculture, social impact financing, and sustainable development.
Proactive and Energetic: Able to work independently and as an active team member.
