Project Overview:
The Kenya Feed the Future Private Sector Activity (KPSA) is a $48 million USAID-funded initiative led by Palladium. Running from 2024 to 2029, the project seeks to accelerate inclusive economic growth in Kenya through strategic partnerships with agricultural and health firms. Using a systems approach, KPSA aims to increase productivity among smallholder farmers, SMEs, and financial institutions, mobilizing $400 million in finance, creating jobs, and expanding access to healthcare services.
The Gender and Youth Inclusion Manager will play a key role in ensuring that gender and youth considerations are integrated across KPSA’s activities, addressing barriers to inclusion and driving equity in economic opportunities.
Key Responsibilities:
Strategic Leadership:
Provide overall strategic direction for integrating gender and youth considerations into project activities.
Assume responsibility for all project results related to gender and youth inclusion.
Barriers Assessment and Inclusion Strategies:
Lead efforts to identify and address barriers to gender and youth inclusion in the agricultural and healthcare sectors.
Conduct and review gender and social inclusion assessments to inform programming.
Collaboration and Advisory:
Establish and lead a Gender and Youth Advisory Board to guide project strategies.
Collaborate with partners to develop inclusive selection criteria and business models.
Provide cross-cutting leadership to address inequities in all program areas.
Capacity Building:
Build project staff capacity to apply a gender and youth lens to program initiatives.
Facilitate workshops and training sessions on gender and youth integration for stakeholders.
Knowledge Building and Monitoring:
Develop tools and frameworks to monitor and evaluate gender-focused outcomes.
Collect and analyze gender-disaggregated data to track progress.
Contribute to external working groups and thought leadership on gender equity and youth empowerment.
Implementation and Reporting:
Develop and oversee the timely implementation of annual work plans.
Work closely with the Strategic Learning and Communications team to ensure that results and project communications reflect inclusive development priorities.
Travel and Support:
Conduct field visits to monitor implementation and engage with regional stakeholders.
Perform other project-related tasks as required by leadership.
Qualifications and Requirements:
Education:
Master’s degree in International Development, Gender Studies, or related field.
Experience:
At least 7 years of relevant experience in SME finance, gender and social inclusion, and agribusiness engagement.
Proven track record of designing and rolling out products and services targeting women and youth, particularly smallholder farmers.
Strong expertise in gender-focused analysis, youth lens investing, and training design.
Substantial experience in collecting and analyzing gender-disaggregated data for monitoring and evaluation.
Skills and Knowledge:
Deep understanding of the intersection between SME growth, business development services, and gender and youth equity.
Ability to think strategically and creatively in developing innovative solutions for inclusion challenges.
Familiarity with USAID policies, procedures, and reporting requirements preferred.
Excellent written and oral communication skills in English.
Preferred:
Local Kenyan candidates are highly encouraged to apply.
Experience working with large donor organizations, such as USAID.
