Job Purpose and Expectations:
The Dean will serve as the chief academic officer and administrator of the School of Science and Technology. Reporting to the Deputy Vice Chancellor, Academic Affairs, the Dean will be responsible for ensuring high-quality education, overseeing academic programs, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements, and aligning the School’s activities with the university’s vision. The Dean will be instrumental in promoting the distinctiveness of the School, fostering student enrollment and retention, managing fundraising efforts, ensuring risk management processes, and maintaining strong alumni, civic, and university engagement. The Dean will also oversee budget management, faculty development, diversity efforts, and promote open communication and inclusivity within the School.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
Oversee enrollment growth and improve student retention rates.
Promote the distinctiveness of the School by communicating its value to prospective students.
Lead fundraising and revenue development initiatives, including securing funding for scholarships and faculty development.
Implement and oversee risk management processes within the School.
Strengthen alumni and community relationships locally, nationally, and globally.
Promote a culture of open communication, inclusivity, transparency, and accountability among faculty, staff, and students.
Manage the School's budget and identify ways to strengthen the revenue stream.
Support faculty development and scholarly activities, ensuring faculty contribute to research and publications.
Foster and continue building on diversity and inclusion efforts within the School.
Maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including donors, alumni, and community members.
Represent the School and the University in national and international scholarly communities, public speaking engagements, and at academic forums.
Qualifications and Experience:
A Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Computer Science, Information Technology, Systems, or a related field.
At least ten years of teaching experience in academia.
A record of successful fundraising and the ability to partner with university advancement officers to secure external gifts, grants, and funding.
Evidence of scholarly publications and professional achievements sufficient for appointment as a professor/associate professor/senior lecturer.
Experience with national and international issues affecting graduate education in science and technology.
Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
A commitment to shared governance and faculty development.
Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility.
Strong strategic, ethical, and leadership skills, with a proven track record as an innovator.
Excellent communication skills, integrity, sound judgment, and emotional intelligence.
Knowledge of regulatory accreditation procedures and standards.
