AFC is a government-owned financial institution dedicated to providing credit services that support the agricultural sector in Kenya. The Corporation is seeking motivated professionals to join its team and contribute to its mission of supporting agricultural development through effective credit services.
Job Purpose:
The Credit Officer will provide credit services to customers in alignment with AFC’s credit guidelines, enabling the Corporation to meet its goals and objectives. This role involves managing the credit process from loan application through disbursement, monitoring loan performance, and ensuring the corporation’s credit portfolio is healthy.
Key Responsibilities:
Customer Guidance:
Take prospective customers through loan procedures and requirements, providing information to help them make informed decisions.
Loan Proposal Evaluation:
Identify potential borrowers through interviews and evaluate their loan proposals for viability.
Recommend viable proposals to the Branch Manager for further consideration and application form issuance.
Client Registration:
Allocate a Client ID number in the FITNES system to capture relevant client information.
Farm Visits:
Conduct farm visits to verify the information concerning loan proposals and assess the adequacy of security for the loans.
Loan Application Presentation:
Appraise and present processed loan applications to the branch loans committee for approval, rejection, or deferment.
Legal Verification:
Ensure all legal formalities are completed before commencing the loan disbursement process.
Delinquency Management:
Monitor delinquent accounts and take necessary remedial action to safeguard AFC’s interests.
AFC Product Promotion:
Participate in Agricultural Society of Kenya (ASK) shows and field days to showcase AFC’s products.
Loan Monitoring and Evaluation:
Prepare monthly monitoring and evaluation reports on loan accounts to assess performance and take corrective action where necessary.
Auction and Seizure:
Accompany auctioneers during the seizure of loose assets and sale of securities to ensure compliance with established procedures.
Staff Training:
Provide training to fellow staff members in credit management, ICT, and other related areas.
Other Duties:
Perform any other relevant tasks as assigned by the supervisor.
Qualifications and Skills:
Education: Bachelor of Science degree in Agriculture, Accounting, Economics, Banking and Finance, or a related field.
Experience: At least three (3) years of practical experience in a credit function within a financial institution.
Technical Skills:
Solid understanding of lending procedures.
Computer literacy.
Strong report writing skills.
Key Competencies:
Strong communication and negotiation skills.
Business acumen and analytical abilities.
Planning and organizing skills.
Individual leadership and customer service commitment.
Knowledge of AFC products and credit appraisal processes.
