The Position

The Aga Khan Hospital, Kisumu (AKHK), a key institution of the Aga Khan Health Service, Kenya, seeks a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon. AKHK is part of a robust healthcare network in East Africa, including hospitals and outreach facilities. With a commitment to excellence, the hospital has achieved ISO 9001:2015 certification, ISO 15189:2022 accreditation for laboratory services, Safe Care level 5 accreditation, and is advancing toward Joint Commission International Accreditation.

Overall Responsibility

Reporting to the Head of Department, the successful candidate will provide exceptional orthopedic care to both outpatients and inpatients. The role requires active collaboration within a multidisciplinary healthcare team and participation in the hospital’s professional development programs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Diagnose and treat musculoskeletal trauma using surgical and non-surgical methods.

  • Manage musculoskeletal tumors in collaboration with oncologists.

  • Perform joint arthrodesis and joint replacement surgeries.

  • Conduct arthroscopy procedures and amputations.

  • Execute limb salvage surgeries.

  • Provide specialized care in pediatric orthopaedics.

Requirements

  • Academic: M. Med in Orthopaedic Surgery from a recognized university.

  • Registration: Must be registered and licensed by the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council (KMPDC).

  • License: Hold a valid practice license from KMPDC.

  • Experience: A minimum of two years of work experience in orthopedic surgery.
