The Position
The Aga Khan Hospital, Kisumu (AKHK), a key institution of the Aga Khan Health Service, Kenya, is seeking a Consultant Neurologist to join its team. AKHK is part of a dynamic healthcare network across East Africa, committed to excellence in service delivery. The hospital has achieved ISO 9001:2015 certification, ISO 15189:2022 accreditation for laboratory services, Safe Care level 5 accreditation, and is advancing toward Joint Commission International Accreditation.
Overall Responsibility
Reporting to the Head of Department, the Consultant Neurologist will deliver high-quality neurology care to both outpatient and inpatient clients. The role includes active participation in multidisciplinary teams and hospital-wide professional development programs.
Key Responsibilities
Conduct and supervise neurological diagnostic procedures such as lumbar puncture and direct fundoscopy.
Interpret and perform nerve conduction studies (NCS) and needle electromyography (EMG).
Interpret evoked potentials, electroencephalogram (EEG) recordings, including prolonged video EEG monitoring.
Demonstrate proficiency in polysomnography interpretation.
Provide preliminary neuroimaging interpretations, especially for emergency neurological conditions.
Lead and enhance neurology services within the hospital and outreach centers.
Teach and mentor junior doctors and medical trainees.
Requirements
Academic Qualification: Master of Medicine in Internal Medicine from a recognized university.
Specialization: Fellowship in Neurology, with a focus on modern epilepsy management.
Skills and Expertise: Comprehensive knowledge of advanced neurological diagnostic and therapeutic techniques.
Professional Role: Lead neurology services and engage in collaborative research initiatives.
