About AFC:
AFC is a government-owned financial institution that provides financial services to the agricultural sector in Kenya. The Corporation is seeking a dynamic and skilled Communications Officer to support its communication strategies, enhance visibility, and maintain a positive public image.
Job Purpose:
The Communications Officer will execute the organization’s communication strategies, create content, manage media relations, and support public relations initiatives. The role is crucial in fostering effective engagement with both internal and external stakeholders and promoting AFC’s objectives.
Key Responsibilities:
Website Management:
Update the AFC website in collaboration with the ICT department to ensure it features current and accurate information at all times.
Event and Outreach Program Management:
Organize corporate functions and outreach programs, ensuring efficient management of AFC’s events.
Internal Publications:
Collect, edit, and prepare well-researched content for internal publications to keep employees informed and engaged.
Media Relations:
Build and maintain good relationships with the media to secure favorable coverage for the Corporation and enhance its public image.
Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR):
Prepare proposals for CSR activities in collaboration with the General Manager of Business Development, ensuring alignment with AFC’s policies.
Media Monitoring:
Monitor and analyze media coverage to assess the quality of AFC’s publicity and recommend improvements.
Speechwriting:
Prepare speeches for top management, ensuring that the content aligns with the Corporation’s agenda and messaging.
Corporate Photography:
Undertake photography during corporate functions to support communication efforts and document events.
Other Relevant Tasks:
Perform other communication-related tasks as assigned.
Qualifications and Skills:
Education:
Bachelor’s Degree in Mass Communication, Journalism, Marketing, or Public Relations.
Certification:
Professional certification in Public Relations, Marketing, Journalism, or related fields (e.g., CIPR, PRSA) is an added advantage.
Experience:
At least 3 years of experience in corporate communication, public relations, or related fields.
Proven track record in content creation, media relations, and digital communication.
Experience in organizing events and managing communication campaigns is desirable.
Key Competencies:
Publishing Skills: Experience with design and publishing software for creating engaging content.
Event Organization: Strong skills in organizing and managing corporate events and outreach programs.
Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to tailor messages for different audiences.
Digital Literacy: Proficient in managing websites, social media platforms, and using digital analytics tools.
Creativity: Ability to create engaging and innovative content for various mediums.
Media Relations: Knowledge of media practices and experience in building relationships with journalists and media outlets.
Organizational Skills: Strong project management skills with the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.
Interpersonal Skills: Excellent relationship-building skills to work effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
