Communications Officer
TextAfrica Nazarene University (ANU) is a fully chartered, non-profit, private Christian university, part of a network of 21 higher education institutions sponsored by the Church of the Nazarene International. Job Purpose:
The Communications Officer is responsible for creating communication materials and managing dissemination strategies for internal and external audiences, including overseeing social media platforms to enhance the university's image and engagement.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
Develop and implement a communication policy and guidelines at the university.
Maintain a register of target internal and external audiences.
Develop creative, engaging, and innovative content for regularly scheduled posts across communication channels.
Collect and record inquiries for follow-up, ensuring all inquiries are responded to within the hour.
Research and analyze public opinion, image, social media trends, and perception of the university.
Gather corporate stories from staff, faculty, students, alumni, and other partners of the university, reviewing, editing, and proofreading them for posting on webpages, social media, and other university platforms.
Create content guides, storyboards, themes, and identify contributing writers for the university’s annual magazine.
Manage all social media accounts and coordinate with outsourced copywriters and content creators.
Liaise with graphic designers and audiovisual technicians/photographers for the publishing of communications materials.
Distribute media releases to print, radio, and television agencies when necessary.
Plan logistics for conferences, corporate visits, seminars, workshops, exhibitions, and other university events. Ensure staff, faculty, and students are informed of all campus activities.
Design and implement various CSR activities and programs on behalf of the university.
Ensure a consistent brand message across all communication channels.
Academic and Professional Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in Public Relations, Communication, or a related field.
Minimum of three (3) years of relevant experience.
Membership in a relevant professional body.
Skills and Competencies:
Interpersonal and Communication Skills: Ability to effectively engage with internal and external stakeholders.
Organizing and Time Management Skills: Strong ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks efficiently.
Team Player: Works effectively within a collaborative team environment.
Detail Oriented: Demonstrates thoroughness in reviewing and editing communications.
Discretion and Confidentiality: Ability to handle sensitive information with care and professionalism.
