KPLC is seeking a Chief Legal Officer, Commercial to join its Legal, Regulatory Affairs & Company Secretary Division.

Position Details
Job Title: Chief Legal Officer, Commercial
Job Ref: HR: KP1/5B.2/1/3/1662
Reporting To: Manager, Legal Services

Key Responsibilities:

Manage the commercial legal function.
Negotiate, draft, and review commercial contracts and ensure proper execution.
Provide legal opinions and maintain a database of issues affecting the company.
Advise on commercial, contractual, and corporate transactions.
Conduct legal research and analysis on various laws.
Perform due diligence and draft leases for conveyancing transactions.
Ensure compliance with corporate laws and regulations.
Evaluate new business partnerships and vendor agreements.
Monitor internal compliance and coordinate reviews of departments and regions.
Draft, vet, and oversee legal agreements and contracts.
Conduct legal awareness and training programs for stakeholders.
Prepare reports and maintain legal records for monitoring and reporting.
Develop and monitor sectional policies and work procedures.
Ensure safe custody of legal documents and security-related records.
Make claims from banks for debtors with valid guarantees.
Promote good corporate governance practices.
Ensure statutory compliance and adherence to company policies.
Coordinate efforts for audits, reviews, and examinations.
Perform additional duties as assigned.

Appointment Specifications

Bachelor’s degree in Law from a recognized institution.
Certified Public Secretary (K), in good standing.
Advocate of the High Court of Kenya with a valid practicing certificate.
Member of the Law Society of Kenya in good standing.
Minimum of 9 years’ post-admission experience, with at least 3 years at a supervisory level.
Completed a course in Corporate Governance.
Proficiency in computer applications.
Strong communication, negotiation, and leadership skills.
High levels of integrity, attention to detail, and strategic thinking.

Current Clearance from the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC).
Current Report from an approved Credit Reference Bureau (CRB).
