Overview: The International Rescue Committee (IRC) is a global humanitarian organization, offering support in over 40 countries. The Deputy Director will be responsible for providing leadership to the Alliance for Child Protection in Humanitarian Action (the Alliance), ensuring the effective protection of children in humanitarian settings. The Alliance comprises over 260 organizations working collaboratively to deliver high-quality child protection services in crisis areas.
Key Responsibilities:
Strategic Leadership:
Support the Alliance Director in creating and updating work plans to meet goals and objectives.
Identify synergies between IRC priorities and the Alliance’s work.
Governance:
Participate as an ex-officio member in the Alliance’s ExCom and Steering Committee meetings.
Ensure transparency and effective governance within the Alliance.
Management & Convening:
Oversee and track the progress of working groups (WGs), task forces (TFs), and initiatives.
Facilitate collaboration between Alliance members and IRC teams.
Technical Guidance & Support:
Provide technical oversight for working groups and initiatives.
Identify gaps and areas of improvement for technical guidance.
Networking & Partnerships:
Build and strengthen partnerships with UN agencies, donors, NGOs, and other stakeholders.
Support policy influence and awareness campaigns for child protection.
Innovation & Knowledge Management:
Contribute to IRC’s research and learning agenda, promoting best practices.
Facilitate the sharing of lessons and knowledge across teams.
Fundraising & Financial Management:
Identify joint fundraising opportunities with IRC and the Alliance.
Support the implementation of fundraising strategies for the Alliance.
Required Experience & Skills:
6-8 years of experience in managing or coordinating Child Protection programs, preferably in humanitarian or crisis contexts.
Experience leading multi-agency collaborations and developing global public goods.
Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office and familiarity with fundraising and donor relations.
Education:
Bachelor’s degree in Social Sciences, Child Rights, Development Studies, or related fields; Master’s preferred.
Languages:
Fluent in English (spoken and written); knowledge of Arabic, French, or Spanish is a plus.
Location:
Based in IRC’s offices in London, Nairobi, or other international hubs.
May require occasional international travel (up to 20%).
