Advocacy and Communications Officer
TextLocation: Nairobi, Kenya
Salary Range: £9,000 - £10,000 per annum

About the Role:
The Advocacy and Communications Officer will play a key role in the INSPIRED Project, a UK-funded initiative aimed at improving the quality of Early Childhood Education (ECE) and foundational learning for 200,000 children in Kenya, with a special focus on 100,000 marginalized children in Wajir and Mandera counties. This role involves the design and coordination of all advocacy activities at both the national and county levels, supporting policy reforms, and enhancing communication products for both internal and external stakeholders to increase the programme's visibility and impact.
Key Responsibilities:
Advocacy & Coordination: Design and coordinate advocacy initiatives to support the goals of the INSPIRED Project, with a focus on foundational learning. Work closely with the Ministry of Education (MoE), the Council of Governors (CoG), SAGAs, and development partners to advance advocacy efforts.
Policy & Stakeholder Engagement: Assist in coordinating and documenting meetings with relevant government agencies, development partners, and civil society organizations (CSOs), and support the civil society advocacy coalition on foundational learning.
Communication Products & Services: Develop communication products to enhance the visibility of the INSPIRED project and strengthen its profile in both internal and external circles. This includes providing clear and effective communication for various stakeholders involved in the project.
Capacity Building: Support the growth and strengthening of the civil society advocacy coalition co-chaired by EDT and Education Development Center (EDC) and hosted by Zizi Afrique.
Required Qualifications, Skills, and Experience:
Education: A relevant degree in Communications, Advocacy, International Relations, or a related field.
Experience: A minimum of 5 years of experience in advocacy and communications, particularly in the education sector, with knowledge of policy reforms and development projects.
Skills: Strong written and verbal communication skills, including report writing and creating compelling advocacy materials.
Knowledge: Understanding of the Kenyan education system, early childhood education, and policy reform processes.
Stakeholder Management: Proven ability to build and maintain relationships with diverse stakeholders, including government, civil society, and development partners.
Leadership: Experience in leading or supporting coalitions and networks focused on advocacy and policy change.
