Project Overview and Role:
The USAID Feed the Future Kenya Private Sector Activity (KPSA) is a $48 million project funded by USAID and implemented by Palladium. KPSA focuses on accelerating inclusive economic growth in Kenya through partnerships with agricultural, health, and other sectors. This initiative will create jobs, increase exports, and improve healthcare access from 2024 to 2029.
The Project Accountant will be responsible for establishing and managing the financial system of the project, overseeing accounting procedures for invoicing, payroll, and expenses, and ensuring proper budget management.
Key Roles and Responsibilities:
Liaise with the home office’s accounting team, PMU team, and KPSA’s Director of Finance to address and resolve accounting issues.
Reconcile project accounts and prepare documentation for monthly accounting packages.
Maintain electronic accounting systems aligned with Palladium and USAID standards.
Conduct monthly audits of local expenditures, including bank reconciliation and US dollar expenses.
Review all local expenses for billing purposes and ensure financial accuracy.
Produce accurate, timely financial reports and maintain all accounting records.
Serve as the first point of contact for the local bank.
Submit procurement plans, DA-1s, and other administrative documents to comply with USAID and GoK VAT exemption procedures.
Monitor vendor invoices and approve payments in coordination with project leaders.
Manage budget reports to ensure accuracy and prepare monthly cash forecasts for review.
Oversee financial aspects of procurement, ensuring compliance with Palladium and USAID policies.
Position Requirements:
Relevant degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related fields.
4-5 years of experience in finance and accounting.
Experience with USAID financial and accounting procedures is preferred.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel and Word.
Strong problem-solving, decision-making, and judgment skills.
Ability to manage confidential information with discretion.
Attention to detail with the ability to handle multiple tasks efficiently.
Strong written and verbal communication skills in English.
Ability to communicate effectively with managers, colleagues, service providers, and clients.
Professional demeanor and conduct.
