About AFC:
AFC is a government-owned financial institution that provides financial services to the agricultural sector in Kenya. The Corporation is looking for an experienced and skilled Accountant to manage accounting operations, ensuring proper accountability and compliance with established procedures.
Job Purpose:
The Accountant will manage accounting operations within AFC, ensuring the proper accountability of resources, enforcement of internal controls, and compliance with financial procedures.
Key Responsibilities:
Asset Safeguarding and Accountability:
Safeguard and maintain the Corporation’s assets to ensure proper utilization and accountability of resources.
Cash Collection and Banking:
Oversee and verify the accuracy of all cash collections, ensuring banking receipts are properly recorded and maintaining audit trails for all transactions.
Client Account Review:
Review and confirm the accuracy of client accounts, ensuring up-to-date loan records and accurate financial reporting.
Committee Services:
Provide secretarial services for key committees, documenting proceedings, and ensuring accurate records and timely follow-up on actions.
Annual Plans and Budgets:
Assist in preparing and implementing annual plans and budgets to ensure financial goals and targets are met.
Imprest and Reconciliation Management:
Assist in the supervision and preparation of weekly imprest claims and monthly reconciliations of imprest, collections, and Mpesa accounts.
Expenditure Monitoring:
Monitor and analyze organizational expenditure, highlighting variances and recommending improvements where necessary.
Cash Book and Banking System Management:
Verify the transmittal cash book and ensure the proper creation of batches in the banking system to maintain accurate cash balances.
Safekeeping of Corporation’s Funds:
Ensure the safekeeping and accurate accounting of overnight cash, maintaining the safety and accountability of AFC’s funds.
Supplier Payments:
Manage the timely settlement of supplier invoices and payments in line with established financial procedures.
Loan Balance and Securities Management:
Prepare discharge of charge documents upon loan balance clearance to ensure the timely release of securities.
Filing and Record Maintenance:
Oversee the proper filing and maintenance of corporate records for easy retrieval.
Account Balances Management:
Apply parallel credit balances daily to respective accounts in arrears to reflect the accurate status of accounts.
Qualifications and Skills:
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field from a recognized university.
Certification: Certified Public Accountant (CPAK) finalist or equivalent.
Experience: Minimum of 3 years relevant experience in accounting, preferably in a financial institution or corporate setting.
Key Competencies:
Demonstrable ability to drive organizational value through diligent financial management practices.
Strong personal integrity and leadership skills.
Analytical skills with a keen orientation to detail.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, both oral and written.
Ability to make critical and timely decisions in a highly sensitive environment.
Familiarity with Public Sector financial accounting principles and procedures.
Proficiency in computer applications.
